CHAMPIONSHIP: WHICH CLUB HAS THE BEST 2021 HOME ATTENDANCE?

As we are now well under way in the Championship 2021/22 season, it’s about time we see on average, which clubs have the highest attendance based on their % of their stadium that is full on match day. This will show each team and how full their ground has been so far.

24th: Blackburn Rovers

Coming in last with the worst percentage attendance so far is Blackburn Rovers with an average of 34.6% which equates to 9,885 fans per game on average. A poor figure for a club which used to have a much stronger following.

23rd: Birmingham City

Next up is Birmingham City who have so far accumulated an average of 45.1% capacity or 13,276. However, some implications of revamping the stadium has resulted in a stand closure which is why the average attendance is down

22nd: Hull City

Hull City are next on the list with an average 46.5% or 11,619 average attendance. A pretty low attendance for what is a large ground and a club with a decent following.

21st: Preston North End

Preston are next on our list as Deepdale so far has seen an average 11,473 which equates to 49% of the capacity. More showing the ground might be a little too large in the current time for the appropriate amount of fans

20th: Reading

We now go to the Select Car Leasing Stadium where we find Reading with an average of 13,034 fans per game or 54% capacity. It’s not known to be a club with a massive following so overall not a bad attendance figure so far

19th: Cardiff City

We travel to South Wales as we find Cardiff City in 19th place. With an average of 18,451 fans per game which totals 55.4% of the capacity. A decent number for Cardiff but not quite anywhere near the capacity of the Cardiff City Stadium.

18th: Coventry City

We move onto the Midlands where we find Coventry City who have averaged 18,557 or 56.9% capacity so far. A very solid number of fans for what was a League One side only two years ago.

17th: Barnsley

We travel up north to Barnsley who have achieved an average of 13,849 fans or 57.7%. This is actually equal with next up on our list but the average fan number being lower means Barnsley rank 17th.

16th: Derby County

Our first joint number as we head to Pride Park who also accumulated 57.7 of the capacity but a much higher average of 19,386 fans. A very solid following for a club stuck with many issues on and off the field

15th: Millwall

We head to The Den which is the home of Millwall who have averaged 12,189 fans per game or 60.2% of the capacity

14th: Middlesbrough

We go to the most northern club in the league at Middlesbrough who have averaged 21,079 fans or 62.5% capacity so far. A very solid number for the north east outfit.

13th: Huddersfield Town

In at 13th place is the home of the Terriers, Huddersfield Town. The John Smith Stadium has managed an average attendance of 15,552 or 63.5% capacity. An overall decent turnout for what has been a very rough period for the club which looks to finally be improving.

12th: Peterborough United

Next up is newly promoted side Peterborough. The Posh have averaged 9,817 or 64.1% of their capacity. An overall decent number for a club who’s finally been able to get back into the second tier under Darren Ferguson.

11th: Stoke City

In 11th place we have Stoke City with an average attendance of 20,253 or 67.3% of their capacity. A very good following for a Championship side being able to maintain and even succeed 20,000 fans so far for the midlands unit.

10th: Bristol City

Into the top 10 and we start off in the Black Country with Bristol City who have managed 18,608 fans or 68.9% of their overall capacity at Ashton Gate. A very good number from Bristol City especially for a team without a home win thus far this season.

9th: Blackpool

We head to the west coast where we find Bloomfield Road home of Blackpool in 9th place who have managed an average of 11,944 or 73.6% capacity. A very good following for the club after their promotion back into the second tier who have received a lot of praise for their home support.

8th: Queen Park Rangers

In 8th place we go back into London to Loftus Road the home of QPR who have averaged 13,931 fans per game or 75.9% of their ground’s capacity. A solid number for the London unit but there’s definitely more fans waiting for a bit more success to get the ground hopefully closer to selling out.

7th: Swansea City

We return to South Wales as we find Swansea City in 7th place with an average of 16,258 or 77.1% of the capacity at the Swansea.com Stadium. Another decent following for Russell Martin’s Swans and it shows with their solid home record so far this season.

6th: Nottingham Forest

We kick off the top 6 in the Midlands as we head to Nottingham Forest’s City Ground who have accumulated 24,691 fans on average which is equivalent to 80.7% of the capacity. A great following especially considering the horrendous start they had to the season under Chris Hughton.

5th: West Bromwich Albion

We start the top 5 off with another midlands club in West Brom who have managed to accumulate 22,600 fans or 84.2% of the Hawthorns capacity. A very good support for the midlands club who also have a brilliant away following.

4th: Sheffield United

In 4th place we head up north to Sheffield United who have managed to fill 27,475 seats at Bramall Lane which is equivalent to 84.3% of the capacity. With the best numbers in the league it’s hard to ignore the great support the Blades have at home.

3rd: AFC Bournemouth

Third on our list is Bournemouth who have managed 9,585 fans in the Vitality Stadium or 84.6% of the overall capacity. A decent number for Bournemouth but they could definitely and have pushed much closer to capacity at certain times so far

2nd: Fulham

Just missing out on top spot on our list is Fulham who at Craven Cottage so far have managed an average of 16,810 fans or 88.5% of capacity. Again a very solid number considering the current maintenance work that is being completed on the stadium to increase that capacity

1st: Luton Town

As probably expected by most, with the smallest ground in the division, Luton Town have the best percentage of capacity filled in the Championship. They have averaged 9,885 fans on average inside Kenilworth Road which is 96.7% of the overall capacity. For such a small ground and area, it is a very good number for Luton who are the closest by some way to the closest number to capacity.
