INTERNATIONAL: TOP FIXTURES OF THE WEEK

With top-flight football on a break for the week, we take a look at three internationals fixtures that will provide you with that football fix.

England vs Belgium – European Nations League (11th October – KO 5pm)

Belgium had England’s number during the 2018 World Cup, beating them twice during the tournament. Gareth Southgate’s men will be looking to get their revenge on Roberto Martinez’s side by getting all three points at Wembley stadium.

England are coming off the back of two very unconvincing performances against Iceland and Denmark, winning and drawing, respectively. This puts a bit of pressure on the Three Lions to put on a performance against a very strong Belgium side. Belgium have had a very good start to their Nations League campaign, starting off with a comfortable 2-0 win away at Denmark, before thrashing Iceland 5-1.

France vs Portugal – European Nations League (11th October – KO 7:45pm)

Two of the most exciting teams in international football, are set to do battle in an important Nations League encounter. Both teams have won their two games in the groups so far, beating Sweden and Croatia.

France arguably have the best national team in the world, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante and Raphael Varane all playing for Didier Deschamps side. The current World Cup holders also have some very exciting youngsters in the camp, with Houssem Aouar and Eduardo Camavinga being called up for the upcoming fixtures.

Portugal also have a strong squad and are the current holders of the European Championships. Cristiano Ronaldo needs no introduction, and with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Joao Felix available, this could be the most exciting match-up of the international break.

Ukraine vs Spain – European Nations League (13th October – KO 7:45pm)

Ukraine have gone quietly under the radar, after Andriy Shevchenko’s side had qualified above Portugal in their European Championship qualifying group. Despite being on the wrong end of a 4-0 score-line against Spain earlier in the league, a respectable 2-1 win against Switzerland means Ukraine find themselves in second place going into this international break.

Spain will draw a lot of confidence from the 4-0 win against Ukraine and will look to get another big win, this time in Ukraine. Luis Enrique has a strong squad at his disposal, with an exciting attack built around the likes Ansu Fati and Dani Olmo. Enrique will be looking to build upon a strong qualifying campaign and take that form into the European Championships, as Spain look to return to dominating the international scene as they did from 2008-2012.
