Currently sitting 14th in the Premier League, and with only one win in their last five games, it’s fair to say Arsenals season has been nothing short of disastrous.

Mikel Arteta’s side’s main issue has been their lack of goals, they have scored just ten in the league so far.

The Gunners desperately need a new creative midfielder after the exclusion of Mesut Ozil, with the club believing they have found the solution in RB Salzburg wonderkid Dominik Szoboszlai.

The club are set to step up their pursuit of the player in January, with the Hungarian having a release clause of just £22.5 million.

The 20-year-old is rated as one of the best youngsters in Europe, he is an excellent dribbler and great technician, with a lot of his goals coming from freekicks.

Since the departure of Erling Haaland from the club, Szoboszlai has taken over as Salzburg’s leading attacker, grabbing a fantastic 8 goals and 9 assists in 17 appearances for the club so far this season.

Szoboszlai has also become a hero for his country, scoring a last-minute goal against Iceland to send Hungary to the European Championship.

So could the Hungarian arrive in January and have a Bruno Fernandes like effect? The short answer is it’s unlikely.

The first problem Arsenal face is that there are a host of other top European clubs in for the midfielder, with him being linked to the likes of Atletico Madrid and AC Milan.

RB Leipzig are the favourites to sign him though, with the club desperate to land the next Salzburg wonderkid after missing out on Erling Haaland.

Szoboszlai is likely to choose the Bundesliga club over Gunners, with Leipzig likely to be far more competitive than the London side next season, and will probably be able to offer the 20-year-old Champions League football.

Even if Arsenal do manage to secure the signature of the Hungarian, it is unlikely he will be able to turn the club’s fortunes around.

Szoboszlai, though talented, is untested in Europe’s top leagues, and would likely take at least half a season to adapt to the prem.

Also with the player being only 20 years old, he still has a long time before he reaches his potential.

Szoboszlai would be a good signing for Arsenal in January, with him being able to offer the gunners the creativity they currently lack, but it would be foolish to think that an untested youngster could turn their season around.

Gunner’s fans will just have to hope that their current squad can pull off a miracle and start performing to the level expected of them.
