STEVE COOPER QUITS: FAVOURITES TO BECOME NEW SWANSEA BOSS - 2 WEEK RUSH!

In what was a very sudden turn of events, it has been announced that Swansea City manager Steve Cooper has left the club by mutual consent. With only two weeks before the 2021/22 Championship season, it leaves Swansea in a very difficult situation. They need a manager in and they need one in very very swiftly. That being said, let’s have a look at some options for Swansea City to appoint.

Eddie Howe

A name that has been thrown about at every possible Premier League and Championship job since he departed Bournemouth is Eddie Howe. After a long but successful spell at Bournemouth, him and the club decided to part ways after Bournemouth were relegated back down to the Championship. After a an 8 year spell at Bournemouth, taking the club from League One to the Premier League in 3 seasons and keeping them in the top flight for 5 successive years after, it wouldn’t be a bad appointment for Swansea. Being the favourites from the book-makers right now, Howe could be a very realistic option for Swansea and I doubt many fans would complain if he was to take charge of the club for the upcoming season.

Frank Lampard

The former Derby and Chelsea manager is currently out of work after being relieved of his duties as Chelsea boss and is looking for a new vacancy. Lampard had a successful term at Derby but unfortunately just missed out on getting them promoted to the top flight. Bringing in players like Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Harry Wilson, his loan links could be a massive asset to help bolster Swansea’s squad. With some believing he took the leap to Chelsea too early, a step back down to the Championship to gain back his confidence and accreditation could be a good thing for his managerial career. Another overall very good option for Swansea and another I don’t think would see too many fans upset.

Alex Neil

Finally we look at the former Preston North End manager Alex Neil. After a successful spell with Norwich and a decent spell with Preston, Neil is now unemployed. While his poor end to his time at Preston was heavily influenced by the departure of a lot of his first team players in the January transfer window, he was relieved of his duties towards the end of the 2020/21 season. However he did have a successful spell managing Norwich as he got them promoted to the Premier League in 2015 after winning the playoffs. Not the most illustrious career that Neil possesses but he is a solid option for Championship teams to monitor. Definitely an option Swansea will be interested in.

With all these suggestions, the reality is there are many options that Swansea could look at. With names like Chris Coleman and John Terry also being thrown into the mix it could be anyone who takes the reigns at Swansea this season. Whoever it maybe, Swansea fans will hope it’s an ambitious appointment that can really match their ambitions of another season challenging for top 6 football. But it’s going to be a massive challenge for the club to overcome in such a short period of time. Only time will tell what is next for Swansea City.
