SUNDAY PL ROUND-UP: ARSENAL LOSE AGAIN, SPURS & LIVERPOOL BOTH DROP POINTS AWAY FROM HOME

Tottenham Hotspur remain top of the Premier League after a bumper Sunday of Premier League action.

Arsenal’s domestic struggles worsened as they lost at home to Burnley, and there were comfortable home victories for Southampton and Leicester.

Fulham 1-1 Liverpool

It was a pleasing return to Craven Cottage for Fulham fans as they witnessed their team go toe-to-toe with Liverpool.

Scott Parker’s men have shown strong signs of improvement recently, and that continued against the champions.

Bobby Decordova-Reid scored for the third home game running to give Fulham the lead, which could have been more comfortable if it wasn’t for visiting ‘keeper Alisson.

Mo Salah salvaged a point for Liverpool after a penalty was awarded for handball by Aboubakar Kamara.

Arsenal 0-1 Burnley

A Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang own goal handed Burnley all three points at The Emirates, ensuring the Gunners’ Premier League form went from bad to worse.

Despite progressing from their Europa League group with six wins from six, Arsenal have now lost their last four home games in the league, only scoring one goal in the process.

There have been some pretty desperate periods for Arsenal fans over the last few years, but this run has to top the lot with the 13-time English champions sitting just five points above the drop.

Granit Xhaka’s red card in the 58th minute gave Burnley the impetus to go on and win the game, which they did courtesy of Aubameyang’s own goal.

Crystal Palace 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Two goalkeeping errors led to a share of the spoils between Crystal Palace and Tottenham as 2,000 fans returned to Selhurst Park.

Vicente Guaita let Harry Kane’s long-range effort slip past him and into the net, which looked to be enough for Spurs until Jeffrey Schlupp capitalised on a mistake from Hugo Lloris to equalise late on.

José Mourinho’s side were controlling the game nicely as has become the norm recently, so the dropped points will be frustrating for them ahead of crucial trip to Anfield on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Palace still sit comfortably in mid-table and make the short journey to West Ham in the Premier League’s first midweek matchday of the campaign.

Leicester City 3-0 Brighton & Hove Albion

Jamie Vardy was directly involved in all three goals in a routine win for Leicester over Brighton, which was all but wrapped up by half-time.

The prolific striker scored one and set up two for James Maddison as the Foxes moved up to third.

It was a fairly even opening to the game, but that was quickly put to bed with three goals in seventeen minutes.

Maddison netted the first before Vardy finished a cross from the impressive James Justin and Maddison got his brace with a stylish, curled finish.

Southampton 3-0 Sheffield United

Southampton were too good for struggling Sheffield United at St Mary’s, easing past the Blades to move back into the top four.

Chris Wilder’s team are still marooned at the bottom of the table on just one point, and unlike some recent games, they never looked like taking anything from this one.

A poacher’s finish from Ché Adams got the ball rolling, before Stuart Armstrong doubled the lead and Nathan Redmond finished it off with his first home league goal for 19 months.

Sheffield United play Manchester United and Brighton before Christmas as they continue their desperate search for a win.
