A double from Ollie Watkins helped Aston Villa to an impressive 3-0 win at Arsenal, while Manchester City and Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday.

Elsewhere, there were narrow wins for Tottenham and Leicester, with the duo now comprising the top two in the Premier League table.

Arsenal 0-3 Aston Villa

Dean Smith’s Villa made it three wins and three clean sheets from three away games so far this season as Ollie Watkins took his league tally to six.

It was a fully deserved win for the visitors, who thought they went ahead inside a minute, but John McGinn’s emphatic finish was ruled out by VAR.

They did eventually take the lead via an own goal when Matt Targett’s cross went in off Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal only managed two shots on target and never really looked like getting back into the game.

The result was sealed by Watkins, who scored twice in a matter of minutes as a close-range header was followed by a low finish under Bernd Leno.

It’s another worrying result for Mikel Arteta and his players who have now lost four of their last six in the Premier League.

Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool

This has been English football’s biggest game in recent times, although Sunday’s meeting was never going to be the title decider that we’ve seen before.

The first-half was full of action at both ends, perhaps to be expected with Liverpool starting with the quartet of Salah, Mané, Firmino and Diogo Jota.

It was the visitors who drew first blood courtesy of a Salah penalty after Mané was fouled. It lasted less than twenty minutes with Gabriel Jesus levelling for City.

This season continued its theme as a second penalty of the game was awarded before half-time, Joe Gomez handling inside the area.

Kevin De Bruyne put it wide and Jesus missed a big chance late on to win it, so the sides had to settle for a point.

Leicester City 1-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Leicester won for the sixth straight game in all competitions as Jamie Vardy’s penalty, awarded for another handball, gave them all three points against Wolves.

Vardy’s fourth goal in five games helped the Foxes to the top of the table, one point ahead of Tottenham and Liverpool.

He could’ve had a brace, but Rui Patrício kept out a second spot-kick, making it three saves from the last six that the Portuguese ‘keeper has faced in the league.

Wolves created a few chances as they looked to extend their unbeaten run to five, but Brendan Rogers’ men were the deserved victors in the end.

West Bromwich Albion 0-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane continued his stellar start to the season as his 150th Premier League goal grabbed a late win for Tottenham at The Hawthorns.

The English striker has incredibly reached double figures for both goals and assists already in all competitions.

It looked like West Brom were going to pick up a valuable point after a hard-fought game with little goalmouth action, but Kane’s header ensured a third away win of the league season for Spurs.
