5 MANAGERS WHO COULD TAKE OVER AT AFC BOURNEMOUTH

Despite sitting in the play-offs, Bournemouth sacked manager Jason Tindall after going winless in six league games.

Bournemouth will be looking to bounce straight back up to the Premier League and recover from their underwhelming first six months in the Premier League, but who will they turn too?

Here are five possible candidates for the job...

David Wagner

The favourite for the job, David Wagner certainly has experience when it comes to getting teams promoted from England's second tier.

Wagner guided a usually mid-table Huddersfield team into the Premier League in what was already an incredible underdog story.

However, his crowning achievement would be keeping them up in their first season in the top flight, a feat regarded as one of the league's best survival stories.

Although the second season did not go to plan, with Wagner sacked in January 2019 as Huddersfield languished at the bottom of the league.

A move to Schalke followed, a move which simply did not go well, as Wagner was dismissed from his role as manager after going on an 18 game winless run.

While not in form as a manager, the German has a good reputation in football and his high pressing style of football could bring the best out of some of Bournemouth's players and push them back into the Premier League.

John Terry

One of England's greatest ever defenders, John Terry has been learning his trade as an assistant head coach at Aston Villa for the last few years.

He has been a part of a team that has successfully achieved promotion to the Premier League and also survival in the top flight.

Terry has also won a lot in his career, including five Premier Leagues and a Champions League title, which tells you that he is used to winning in football.

Learning from Dean Smith, the Englishman will have certainly picked up a lot from one the best English managers in the game.

The one stumbling block is his lack of experience, and as Bournemouth will want immediate results, does Terry have the knowhow and management skill to pull that off.

There is only one way to find that out, but is it a risk the Cherries would be willing to take?

Jonathan Woodgate

The current man in caretaker charge, Woodgate got off to a good start in his first game, ending Bournemouth's winless run with a 3-2 victory against Birmingham.

While not the most convincing victory, Woodgate himself had only been at the club for under a week, so he was learning about his players on the job.

The Englishman is coming off the back of a poor spell in charge of Middlesbrough last season, where he was let go of in June 2020, as Boro struggled in the bottom half.

Perhaps the Middlesbrough job was a bit too much to ask for early on in his career, as he was brought in to revolutionise Boro's defensive minded playing style and while he didn't succeed there, the Cherries squad will be more tailor-made for Woodgate's tactics.

It would be the most sensible appointment considering he is already in charge, and with a possible trial run as Bournemouth search for a new manager, Woodgate has an opportunity to impress his way into the hot seat.

Harry Redknapp

Drafted in by the aforementioned Woodgate to provide some reliable advice, Harry Redknapp may possibly have one last run in him as a manager.

A former Bournemouth manager, a position he held for nine years, Redknapp will be aware of the clubs history and would have kept close tabs on their progress through the years.

Without doubt a talented manager, Redknapp led Tottenham back into Europe and provided Portsmouth with an FA Cup alongisde good spells at a multitude of English sides.

However, Redknapp is more known now for his celebrity work, where to be fair to him, he has been winning, having been crowned the 2018 King of the Jungle in 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!'.

Four years away is a long time in football, so it may be too late for a Redknapp comeback, but stranger things have happened in football so you simply cannot rule it out.

Nigel Pearson

Nigel Pearson was the man that built the Leicester team that shocked the world to win the Premier League, which is an extraordinary feat.

Pearson took Leicester back into the Premier League in the 2013/14 season before going on to secure survival in the 2014/15 season.

He was then sacked during the 2015/16 pre season, and we all know why, let's not talk about that.

A short and unsuccesful spell at Derby County followed, before a two year spell over in Belgium with OH Leuven, which went fairly OK.

Pearson returned to the Premier League with Watford, midway through last season, but could not keep them up and was sacked with two games to spare.

An interesting character, Pearson has promotion winning experience and could be the man to get Bournemouth back into the top flight, however his recent resume may not encourage Bournemouth to take on the Englishman as their new manager.
