Lockdown is almost over and if you’re running out of things to do, here are some of the best shows and films to watch to fill the end of your time in lockdown.

Shows

Amazon’s All or Nothing Series

Available on Amazon Prime, the All or Nothing shows follow Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City separately on their journeys over the course of a season. It is an all access, no holds barred shows that gives an insight into the runnings and discourse that runs alongside a football club. The Manchester City version follows their journey through the 2017-2018 season where they won two of four trophies as well as breaking plenty of Premier League records. The Tottenham Hotspur version follows the 2019-2020 season. The season saw the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino and the hiring of Jose Mourinho. The episodes are a decent length, ranging from 45 minutes to an hour.

Sunderland ‘Til I Die

The Netflix docuseries follows Sunderland as they attempt to bounce back from relegation from the Premier League. It follows their journey with a new owner and a new league. It acts as a fly on the wall series and was originally produced to attempt to attract new owners. It has two seasons which will give you plenty of lockdown entertainment.

Films

Goal!

A classic, nostalgic favourite of many football fans, Goal! is somewhat of a cult football fan favourite film. It was made with cooperation from FIFA, which is why real teams and players are used throughout the film. There are three films in the series which will make for plentiful lockdown viewing. Whether you’ve never watched the film before or if it’s an old favourite of yours, it’s definitely worth the watch.

The Football Factory

This film is less about football and more about fan culture. It features cockney hero Danny Dyer who plays a football hooligan who drinks, does drugs and gets into plenty of scraps. It depicts his attempts to escape the life of a football hooligan.

Green Street Hooligans

Similar to The Football Factory, this film is based around football hoologanism. It follows an American student who comes to England and gets adopted into the football hooliganism culture by his sister’s brother-in-law. Whilst he enjoys the violence of the culture, it begins to take over other parts of his life. It’s a classic and worth watching.

There’s Only One Jimmy Grimble

This film follows a young, aspiring footballer who is desperate to play for his school. Unfortunately, his biggest rival pips him to the spot. Jimmy Grimble is given a pair of football boots which once belonged to a top Manchester City player, the club he loves. These boots change his life and his luck completely turns.

United

This BBC Television film follows the Busby Babes and the aftermath of the Munich disaster. It focuses heavily on the relationship that Jimmy Murphy, their assistant manager, and a young Bobby Charlton. The film oversees the events that occur between 1956 and 1958. It’s a heartwarming tale of overcoming adversity and a must watch for all Manchester United fans.
