DEJA VU: WHAT'S GOING WRONG FOR UNITED BOSS SOLSKJAER

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have many things to figure out, as Manchester United lies on the wrong end of things lately, especially at Old Trafford.

Their recent narrow defeat against long-time rivals Arsenal is a big slap in the face for the Red Devils. Sitting at 15th place in the table, this will surely be considered as one of the worst starts for United since the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

To add insult to injury, their defeat against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League group stage surely piles up to the question whether the Norwegian is the right man for the job at Old Trafford.

Their home record surely is a laughing stock among many supporters, only managing to win one against RB Leipzig in the Champions League group stage. This United squad is far from what many knew then. The title-winning club eventually fell into a seemingly ordinary one.

They have a strong line-up to say the least. Marcus Rashford is giving them a boost to fight for their bragging rights with his good performances. But he alone cannot carry the entire burden to raise the team up to high standards. It is very evident that issues on the pitch contribute to their low-form.

The Red Devils’ midfield has been the biggest issue for them, given the many players they can opt to choose from the line-up. Paul Pogba’s recent form has been the most questionable one, having failed to make any big impact for the squad. On the other hand, Bruno Fernandes has struggled to keep up with the levels of performances he set himself last season so far this term.

Donny Van de Beek hasn’t seen much playing time since his arrival in the summer, which was one of the most questionable aspects of Solskjaer’s decision making. Why sign a prospect if he will not be utilized that much? It may only be the start of his career as a Red Devil, but he should be given the opportunity to really get the grasp of things at Manchester.

A man between the post is what also comes to the forefront in this issue. Changing keepers frequently has shown that as of now, United doesn’t have that reliable man still. David De Gea has been conceding goals recently that proved to be costly for them. Likewise, Dean Henderson has not been that consistent, especially in his place where he is under pressure to be England’s top man in goal.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to questioning whether the problem lies on the players or the manager. Recent results may see Solskjaer’s time at Old Trafford running out. If he wants to keep hold of his ground, he should figure things out as soon as possible and get Manchester United back to its glorious form.
