Exeter City have announced their second signing of the day as George Ray joins the Grecians following his release from Tranmere Rovers on a two-year deal.
The centre-back came through the Crewe Alexandra academy system, and made 137 appearances for the Railwaymen before moving to Tranmere in 2019.
Ray made 23 appearances for Tranmere Rovers in his two years there and arrives with plenty of football league experience.
Having made his professional debut in the 2013 Football League Trophy final, Ray has proven he can deal with the pressure of the big occasion.
Exeter City boss Matt Taylor has kept tabs on Ray for a while now, and was delighted to finally secure his signature.
"He's a player we've followed for a few season's now since he was a part of that really great Crewe side."
Taylor is keen to draw on Ray's experience and he believes that it will be a great tool to help the team in the short and long term.
"We are giving George the opportunity to come in and be an experienced head amongst the younger players and if he buys into our ethos, we will have a really good player on our hands. "He comes with a really good pedigree after coming through the Crewe academy. We can relate to how that works and the pathways that are there. George learnt his trade in this league so he knows it well."
Ray marks Exeter's third summer signing, joining Josh Coley and Callum Rowe at St James Park.
