GOALS GALORE: EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE THIS WEEKEND

After picking up a point from two games before the International Break, the misery piled on once more for Manchester United as Leicester rolled them over in an action-packed match at The King Power.

Even after Mason Greenwood smashed in a long range strike for the opener, Manchester United’s general attitude and application was far too casual. The Foxes won this game with a better hunger and desire, closing down nonchalant passes out from the back multiple times. The Foxes’ first of the afternoon would come courtesy of a Red Devils error, closing down on Maguire before Tielemans expertly looped a finish over De Gea. Maddison enjoyed lots of freedom in this encounter, with Solskjaer’s side sitting back far too often.

A blitz of goals in the last 15 minutes would win Leicester the contest, their drive to win and punish a casual Manchester United side telling. The Foxes would get their second through substitute Patson Daka, troubling De Gea with a shot before Maguire cleared behind rashly for a corner. A scramble found the Turkish defender Soyuncu, who slotted a finish past De Gea after a poor season so far for the Leicester centre-back.

Not even a Marcus Rashford goal could spare Manchester United blushes, Jamie Vardy instinctively leathering one past the Spanish keeper a matter of moments after Rashford levelled. Patson Daka’s desire would be rewarded with his first Leicester goal in the league, abysmal marking leaving the former Salzburg man free who poked into an open goal. Leicester needed that after a stumbling start, the Manchester United players visibly dejected at full time as The Foxes tore them apart.

Another team that was torn to shreds came in the early kick-off on Saturday, Ranieri given a rude awakening at the hands of Klopp’s Liverpool as Watford lost 5-0 in his first game in charge. With 76% of the possession, and 19 shots on goal, Liverpool completely dominated from start to finish. Their goals were well-worked and comfortably finished for the most part, Mo Salah’s goal to make it 3-0 bucking the trend however.

Dancing around The Hornets, Salah took on multiple Watford defenders before stroking it into the net. Lauded as ‘the best player in the world’ post-match from Jurgen Klopp, that tag is befitting of a man who is playing out of his skin at the moment. Scoring a similar goal against Manchester City, he’s in the form of his life.

The rest of the Premier League action saw goals galore, Wolves coming back from a two goal deficit at Villa Park to win 3-2. Aston Villa looked to be strolling to a comfortable home success, goals coming through Danny Ings and a long-range strike from John McGinn. Unfortunately for Aston Villa, their players switched off and lost their concentration.

Wolves took advantage of this lapse, Saiss and Coady scoring scrappy goals off poor Villa defending before a deflected Ruben Neves free-kick won it at the death. Wolves continued to fight through Adama Traore namely, his constant energy and drive to burst through giving Lage’s men an attacking outlet even when Villa were cruising.

Two other games of note from this round of fixtures came at Brentford and Newcastle, Brentford’s fairy-tale start thwarted another milestone courtesy of Edouard Mendy saving Chelsea countless times in their narrow 1-0 win. Ben Chilwell’s volley on the stroke of half-time won it for Tuchel’s men, the ex Leicester man getting a taste for goals with three strikes in his last three for club and country.

The pick of the bunch for Mendy came from an acrobatic Norgaard attempt, Mendy making himself big to tip it over. With five shots all match, it’s safe to say Chelsea were lucky to walk away with all three points. Brentford continue to win over the neutral, but on this occasion, Frank’s men cruelly ended the contest empty-handed.

Newcastle’s first match under their new Saudi owners is the other game of note, Spurs ruining their big day however with a 3-2 victory at St James Park. It looked so rosy for The Magpies after two minutes, Callum Wilson heading in to send St James Park into momentary delirium.

A quickfire double would bring those Newcastle fans back down to their usual pessimism, Ndombele hitting one with venom past Darlow before a confidence boosting goal for Harry Kane gave Spurs the lead. Not even Steve Bruce’s 1000th game as a manager made the visitors feel charitable, Newcastle losing again this season.

The game was halted thereafter for a medical emergency, Reguilon heroically pointing to the crowd to halt the contest and make the referee aware of the severity. A Newcastle fan helped to provide CPR, the Magpies supporter suffering a cardiac arrest before being stabilised. With Christian Eriksen suffering similar on the pitch at the Euro’s, the importance of CPR and using a defribilator here has helped no end in saving the Newcastle fan’s life.

When the football resumed, Spurs got another - Heung-Min Son scoring before the whistle was blown for half-time. Newcastle would get a consolation, Eric Dier scoring an own-goal even after a Jonjo Shelvey red card made the task look difficult. Steve Bruce’s 1000th match in management might well prove to be his last as Newcastle boss, a 28.9% win rate as Toon boss won’t keep him around under the new moneybags regime.

Lots of key talking points to unpack from these matches, with Solskjaer in a perilous position as Red Devils boss. With Klopp and Tuchel getting the best out of their sides, and Manchester City lurking beneath, is it time for a change of personnel at Old Trafford? With other sides firing on all cylinders, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary.
