NORWICH'S NIGHTMARE START: WILL IT END?

Survival seems impossible for the Canaries as Daniel Farke’s men are on the brink of making unwanted history.

Similarly, last season Norwich City made history by securing their highest points tally ever.

Yet, at the second time of asking, Daniel Farke’s men still can't crack the code to suit life in the Premier League.

Norwich have completed matchday seven with only a point to their name after drawing 0-0 to Burnley, another side in the relegation zone.

Meaning they’ll be on par with Crystal Palace (17/18) and Portsmouth (09/10) as the worst start to a Premier League season ever. During this time, Portsmouth had received a nine-point deduction – as well as experiencing major financial issues.

However, after seven straight defeats, both sides managed to record a win on their eighth attempt.

A point against fellow strugglers Burnley may be the start of something for the Canaries, but with Brighton and Chelsea coming up after the International break, it is hard to see where their next point is coming from.

To put things into perspective, Norwich currently have less points than both bottom two League Two sides Oldham Athletic and Scunthorpe United, who have experienced problems off the pitch as well as on it.

On top of that, Norwich have recorded less points than Derby County – who recently faced a 12-point deduction. Yet still have one more point than the Premier League strugglers.

A stronger recruitment effort over the summer may have cushioned the blow of losing star man Emi Buendia, but it may already be clear that Norwich do not have the quality to compete with most of the teams in the League, especially with their current style.

The Canaries have been labelled ‘naive’ for their way of playing in England’s top flight and the blame for that would have to fall at the feet of Daniel Farke and his staff.

A clean sheet against Burnley is encouraging for their defence and could possibly be a platform to build off, but the games do not get any easier for the German’s side.

Farke will no doubt be aware of the anticipation on his shoulders over the next one or two games as Norwich fans’ concern may begin to grow, over another futile attempt to stay in the Premier League.
