PREMS MOST NEEDED: TRANSFERS THE BOTTOM THREE CLUBS NEED TO MAKE BY DEADLINE DAY

With just a few days left of the summer transfer window plenty of Premier League clubs have been active selling on and bringing in new players. Frank Lampard has spent big this summer, Gareth Bale has re-joined Tottenham Hotspur, Champions League winner Thiago has joined Premier League holders Liverpool and of course the biggest acquisition of the summer Dale Stephens has joined Burnley.

Despite the extended window due to COVID-19, there are still some clubs needing to bring in new players before the October 5th deadline, so I’m going take a quick look at the Premier Leagues bottom of the pack trio and what players will be absolutely perfect to kickstart their seasons.

Fulham – Centre-Back 

The cottagers haven’t exactly had the start they would have wanted back in the Premier League, with three defeats from three. An opening day humbling against Arsenal followed by a goal fest at Elland Road and capped off with an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

The latter of those results heavily exposed Fulham’s lack of defensive coherency, conceding inside four minutes to Villa captain Jack Grealish and the worrying thing for Parker was how easy it was for a team, not exactly known for their free-scoring, to open up his sides backline.

If Fulham want to avoid heading straight back to the Championship, a centre-half is definitely needed. 

Jean-Clair Todibo 

The French U20 international is currently signed to European giants Barcelona after his move from Toulouse but spent the majority of last season on loan at Schalke, after only making two appearances for Barca. 

His time spent in Germany was much more successful in regards to playing time as the Frenchmen made eight appearances. Unfortunately for him the results weren’t so great as The Royal Blues only won one game during Todibo’s time there and a groin injury side-lined him for the final five games of the season.

In his albeit brief cameos for Schalke he showed a lot of intensity and pace, something the current Fulham backline somewhat lacks, and at just 20-years-old he’ll be looking to learn as much as he can.

However, with interest from Everton as well, the newly-promoted side will have to work quickly for his signature.

Sheffield United – Striker 

It’s early days in the 20/21 Premier League season but second from bottom without any goals isn’t the most promising start for last season's surprise package Sheffield United. 

Chris Wilder sets up with a back five with two forwards leading the line and the gaffer has the choice between, Oli McBurnie, David McGoldrick, Lee Sharp and Lys Mousset. 

The first three are very similar, preferring the ball at their feet and using their bodies to bully their markers, while Mousset is the anomaly relying on pace and intensity to trouble defenders. The former Bournemouth man did go through a purple patch of goals last season, scoring five in nine, but only has one Premier League goal since last December, leaving Wilder to turn to the market for a natural goal scorer. 

Rhian Brewster

Another player who heavily benefited from a loan move for game time was Rhian Brewster. After coming through the academy at Liverpool Brewster searched for first time football and found that at the Liberty Stadium.

The 20-year-old managed 11 goals in the championship during his 6-month loan spell with Swansea and is definitely a striker who knows where the back of the net is, something the Blades are in dire need of. 

Although the youngster is yet to prove himself in England’s top division, he showed last season that he is a clinical finisher in the 18-yard box.

The height advantage the Blades possess in their attack and the bombing wing-backs in Enda Stevens and George Baldock providing plenty of mouth-watering crosses, means there could be plenty of chances for the poacher style of striker Brewster is to get on the score sheet.

Burnley – Creative Midfielder 

Now that Stoke City are miles away from the top division, I think most Premier League fans are in agreement that the classic saying “can they do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke” now definitely belongs to Burnley. Sean Dyche sets his clarets up in a simple 4-4-2, but it’s the work rate and tenacity of all those players which makes it so difficult to play against. 

An early goal against you at Turf Moor is the absolute worst-case scenario, as they become an almost impenetrable solid two banks of four.

Only twice last season did Burnley drop points at home after scoring the opener, but as we saw against Southampton at the weekend, conceding the opener is a completely different story. 

Dyche needs someone he can turn to for that creative flair, he may not fit the plan A but chucking him on at 60 minutes when they’re 1-0 down could be the spark the Lancashire-based club are missing. 

Ryan Christie

Due to not playing the remainder of the 19/20 season, the Scottish Premiership began at the beginning of August and most teams are coming up to ten games played. Both Rangers and Celtic make up the top two respectively, imagine my shock, with Ryan Christie having a very positive start for the latter.

The Scotsman is averaging a goal contribution every 94 minutes in all competitive fixtures so far this season, helping Celtic to an unbeaten start in the league. Christie would be a great addition for Burnley and would certainly add another dimension to how they can play, giving Dyche that extra dose of creativity that he’s crying out for.

So, with four days left of the transfer window, will they sign their potential savours or miss out on what could prove to be the key to staying up this year? I guess we'll have to wait and see.
