Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius on a one-year loan deal.
The move will cost Spurs an original €3m (£2.7m), with an option to buy for around £38.2m according to Sky Sports.
Carlos Vinicius, 25, who is seen by Tottenham as the ideal back-up to Spurs Striker Harry Kane, only joined Benfica last summer in a £15m switch from Italian side Napoli.
The 25-year-old scored 24 goals and registered 13 assists last season, resulting in interest from some of Europe’s elite teams.
Vinicius is now Tottenham’s sixth signing of the window and will join Spurs’ attacking unit already bolstered by the return of Gareth Bale.
If the option to buy agreement is triggered, the Brazilian striker will sign a four-year deal with the north London outfit, keeping him at Tottenham until 2025.
The £2.7m loan fee brings Jose Mourinho’s summer spending to around £80m – Gareth Bales wages and loan fee equating to nearly a quarter of the overall spending.
