STRONG START: BEST EFL TRANSFERS SO FAR

With the transfer window in full swing, we have seen plenty of movement within and around the EFL as pre-season comes closer.

While there is still plenty of time left, some clubs will have done a lot of their business early and tried to snatch up their targets will they are available.

But who has made the best signing?

Let’s look at the number one signing SO FAR, from each EFL league…

THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Allan Campbell (Motherwell to Luton – Undisclosed Fee)

There hasn’t been an awful lot of transfers made in the Championship yet, but Luton have made their mark as one of the fast starters in this year’s summer window.

After losing the likes of James Collins and Matty Pearson, Nathan Jones has acted quickly, bringing in five new players.

The most impressive of those being midfielder Allan Campbell, who the Hatters brought in for an undisclosed fee after his contract with Motherwell expired.

While primarily being a holding player, Campbell is versatile and can play in all three central midfield positions, with his high energy style making him arguably a better ‘8’ than a ‘6’.

Campbell also knows where the back of the net is, and being only 22, he has tons of potential and an opportunity to grow with Luton, as they look to establish themselves as a Championship mainstay.

LEAGUE ONE

Scott Twine (Swindon to MK Dons – Fee TBC)

MK Dons have gone through a complete style change under Russell Martin, and this transfer window will be integral in how successful this season will be for them, with a full season already under their belt.

They have certainly started in impressive fashion, as Martin secured the signature of in-demand midfielder Scott Twine from Swindon Town.

The fee is still in discussion, but regardless of how much that turns out to be, MK Dons can be very excited with their new signing.

Starring in an unimpressive Swindon side who were relegated from League 1, Twine provided seven goals and three assists in 25 league games and attracted interest from both Championship and League 1 teams.

With an eye for the spectacular, Twine is one of those players that can get you off your seat when he gets a hold of the ball and could play a big part in turning MK Dons possession into goals.

Martin will need to sign some more players to bolster his side but bringing in Twine is as statement to the rest of the league.

LEAGUE TWO

Joss Labadie (Newport to Walsall – Free)

Matt Taylor was recently appointed head coach of Walsall, and his recruitment team have wasted little time improving his team for next season.

Having already made some good signings with Manny Monthe and Connor Wilkinson coming in, perhaps the most impressive was the capture of experienced midfielder Joss Labadie from play-off finalists Newport County.

An integral part of Newport’s recent success, the 30-year-old captained the Welsh team for four years and played in both play-off finals.

Having struggled since their relegation to League Two, Walsall are clearly working hard to improve their team ahead of the new season, and this signing is definitely a statement to the rest of the league.

Labadie is a solid central midfielder, who has the capability to win his side any game and also a strong leader, with plenty of experience as a skipper.

Turning 31 this year, Labadie will be looking to use his League Two experience to guide Walsall into a play-off position or even better.
