TUCH OF CLASS: COULD THOMAS TUCHEL TAKE CHELSEA TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Latest Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, took charge of his first game in the Premier League on Wednesday.

His side faced an out of form Wolverhampton Wanderers team, and despite dominating possession, they failed to find that crucial goal to break the 0-0 deadlock.

Although unable to win, it was fascinating to see the tactical setup he decided to go with.

Having only been revealed as the next Chelsea manager 24 hours ago, replacing Frank Lampard, it was always going to be difficult to turn around an instant result.

Tuchel opted for experience in his first game, looking to utilise the likes of Olivier Giroud and the midfield pivot of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.

There was still an opportunity for future star Callum Hudson-Odoi, who started in a position we have never seen him take up before.

He was almost played in role such as the one that Alphonso Davies takes up for Bayern Munich, fitting in to a wing-back role as Chelsea began with a back three of Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic, a former player under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, all came off the bench to try and impact the game.

They all impressed, and it will leave Tuchel with a headache trying to solve what starting line-up to go with next.

It can be considered a good place to kick on from, with a clean sheet and many other positives to take from the match.

Chelsea managed to claim 78.9% of the possession, with a total of 820 passes, with both becoming the highest totals by a team in their manager’s first Premier League game in charge.

Despite not being able to get that vital goal, there were some very positive signs from Chelsea, and they were perhaps unlucky not to take all three points.

In their next fixture Chelsea will be hosting Burnley at Stamford Bridge, and it could be a largely similar viewing.

It is likely Burnley will sit back and defend, with Chelsea controlling the ball and searching for that killer moment.

Now having had the chance to of trained with the players a few more days, Tuchel will hope he has ironed out any issues and implemented more ideas when they go forward.

Onwards from this, Chelsea have a good run of fixtures that they can hopefully gain some momentum from and pick up points.

Their next four fixtures involve clashes against 20th place Sheffield United, a struggling Newcastle United and of course a relegation threatened Burnley side.

For the game tomorrow it will be interesting to see if there are many changes Tuchel makes and if he will stick with a similar formation or not.

Overall, it is going to be an exciting second half under a manager with the caliber that he has.

Many of course are disappointed following the dismissal of Frank Lampard, but it is important to look ahead and put full faith in Tuchel.

Chelsea are in desperate need of points at the moment, so a good streak of form would really improve their chances of top four, which now seems the most realistic goal possible.

However, there is still many opportunities for a trophy, they advanced to the fifth round of the cup in Lampard’s last game and are in the round of 16 in the Champions League.

From what I have seen so far I would say Tuchel is the right man for the job, obviously it is difficult to tell after just one game, but it seems as though there is much to look forward to.
