TUESDAY THROWBACKS: GERMANY EMBARRASS BRAZIL IN MOST HISTORIC WORLD CUP CLASH

The 2014 World Cup, just like all other world cups, had a plethora of memorable moments. That outrageous James Rodriquez volley against Uruguay, what about that stupendous display from Mexican goalkeeper Ochoa or even when Robin Van Persie wrote his name into Dutch scrapbooks and became the flying dutchman?

The one that really dominated tournament headlines however was the unforgettable humiliation that Germany inflicted on host-nation Brazil.

A tournament that promised so much for Brazil ended in complete decimation for them. It was the semi-final, the stage was set in Belo Horizonte for the host nation to dismantle their German opposition and stride one step closer to claiming their 6th world cup win, however that didn't go quite according to plan.

After 11 minutes an old reliable Thomas Muller popped up from a corner to volley Germany ahead and give Brazil some hard thinking to do. The Brazilian brains did not click into gear quick enough though and they were punished once again in the 23rd minute. Miroslav Klose was given time and space in the area after some intricate German play and fired past Julio Cesar to give Germany a handsome looking 2-0 lead, whilst at the same time writing his name into football history by becoming the all time leading goalscorer in the competition (16 goals in 23 games).

Brazil were bitterly disheartened at how proceedings had gone so far, but the next 5 minutes were not to get any better for them, it was total capitulation. Toni Kroos got on the end of a Philip Lahm cross to fire home only one minute after Klose’s goal to make it 3-0. It was only a single minute later when Kroos nabbed the ball from the Brazil backline to start yet another assault on goal, with a quick exchange between his midfield partner Sami Khedira, a captivating Kroos slotted home for a quickfire fourth! In the 29th minute Brazil were 5-0 down after more shocking defending let in Khedira, who expertly guided home. It was unprofessional and unbelievable from Brazil.

The scoring simmered down slightly, well that was until the 69th minute when Andre Schurrle was given way to much space in the box and was gifted a tap in for six. Schurrle, in the 79th minute, was then given the chance to make it seven, which he gratefully took and brilliantly blasted the ball into the roof of the net.

The final score was 7-1, oh, Oscar got one back for Brazil in the last minute, but it was so irrelevant it's hardly worth mentioning. The home fans, although colourful, were not cheerful. Brazil were out.
